Look at any Best Seller list in bookshops today, and it will be full of works about the rich and famous. We learn that it’s not that they didn’t experience tough times, but that they didn’t allow the tough times to dominate their thought processes. That’s how it is; life’s achievers allow positive reasons why ‘they can’ to fill their minds, and ignore negative reasons why they can’t.

And so for someone attempting to reduce their weight, a positive mind-set is fundamental. You can only do it if you think you can! An up-beat, affirmative viewpoint harnesses the right results. On the other hand, a negative outlook blocks us and numbs our ‘can-do’ receptors.

We all have an automatic ‘device’ in our brains, known as our reticular activation system. This system is responsible for everything we focus on. Over our lives, we’ve experienced a huge number of things that no longer remain in our conscious thoughts – the bulk of what we’ve learned moves from our conscious mind to our sub-conscious mind, a kind of store cupboard stocked up with all our past knowledge and beliefs.

When we consciously attempt to do anything, our Reticular Activation System (RAS) will search the sub-conscious mind for any relevant information it holds, and bring it to our attention. If we’re walking down a street, we’re only made aware of things that have meaning to us – the rest is just background noise.

Therefore, if our conscious mind has generally been transferring positive, upbeat messages to our sub-conscious mind, that’s what it will send back. But if our sub-conscious has been given loads of downbeat messages, then that’s equally what will be sent back.

Successful people seem to have developed the technique of ‘programming’ their subconscious with positive thoughts, thereby controlling their RAS. For achieving goals this makes the RAS an essential tool, because the sub-conscious mind doesn’t know what’s real or imaginary.

In other words, we need to build a very detailed picture of our goal in our conscious mind. Dutifully, our RAS will then store that image sub consciously, ready to assist us with our objectives. Because when we need to retrieve our old information on losing weight, the message is that it’s a done deal!

The writer Napoleon Hill said that we can achieve any realistic goal if stop dwelling on negative thoughts about it. We must keep a positive focus. Naturally, if we’ve bombarded our thinking with negative and defeat, we can expect exactly that.

Stay focused on what you want to achieve, and create a learning-plan from that – not the other way round. Keep your eyes on your goals and study for a job that’ll reward you for many long and fruitful years.

Sense dictates that you look for advice and guidance from a skilled professional before making your final decision on a particular learning program, so there’s no doubt that the specific package will give the skills for the job being sought.

Can job security truly exist anywhere now? In a marketplace like the UK, with industry changing its mind whenever it suits, it seems increasingly unlikely.

Security can now only exist through a quickly rising market, driven by a shortage of trained workers. This shortage creates the appropriate environment for a secure marketplace – a much more desirable situation.

Offering the computer market for example, a key e-Skills analysis showed a skills deficit in Great Britain of around 26 percent. Therefore, for every four jobs existing across IT, businesses are only able to find properly accredited workers for three of the four.

This single idea in itself highlights why the country urgently requires so many more workers to get trained and enter the IT industry.

Actually, acquiring professional IT skills over the coming years is likely the safest career direction you could choose.

Students hopeful to start an IT career often aren’t sure which route to consider, or even what area to achieve their certification in.

How likely is it for us to understand the tasks faced daily in an IT career when we haven’t done that before? Most likely we don’t know someone who performs the role either.

Deliberation over the following issues is imperative if you want to reveal the right answers:

* The type of personality you have and what you’re interested in – the sort of working tasks you love or hate.

* Why you want to consider starting in Information Technology – maybe you’d like to achieve some personal goal such as being your own boss for example.

* What priority do you place on salary vs the travel required?

* Learning what the normal Information technology roles and markets are – and what differentiates them.

* How much time you’ll spend on obtaining your certification.

In these situations, it’s obvious that the only real way to investigate these matters is via a conversation with someone who has experience of IT (as well as the commercial requirements.)

You should feel pleased that you’re on the right track! Only one in ten folks claim contentment with their job, but vast numbers just bitch about it and nothing happens. Because you’ve done research we can guess that you’re at least considering retraining, so even now you’re ahead of the game. The next step is to get busy to find your direction.

Before we even think about specific training programs, look for an advisor who can help you sort out the right type of training for you. An advisor who will take time to get to know your personality, and find out what types of work suit you:

* Do you want to interact with other people? If so, do you like working with the same people or are you hoping to meet new people? Or are you better working in isolation?

* Are you considering which industry you maybe could work in? (Post credit crunch, it’s essential to choose well.)

* Having completed your retraining, would you like your skills to see you to retirement age?

* Do you think being qualified will give you the chance to find the work you’re looking for, and remain in employment until your retirement plans kick in?

It would be an idea for you to really explore Information Technology – there are more positions than people to do them, and it’s one of the few choices of career where the sector is on the grow. Contrary to the opinions of certain people, it isn’t a bunch of techie geeks staring at their computers the whole time (if you like the sound of that though, they do exist.) Most positions are done by people like you and me who enjoy better than average salaries.

A major candidate for the top potential problem in IT training is often the ‘in-centre’ workshop requirement. Most training schools extol the virtues of the ‘benefits’ of going in to their classes, however, they quickly become a major problem because of:

* Repeated visits to the centre – 100’s of miles in many cases.

* Weekday accessibility to events can be usual, and with 2-3 days to book off work, this is usually problematic for most working students.

* Most of us find 4 weeks off each year is not really enough. Spend at least half of this for educational classes and you’ll experience even more problems.

* ‘In-Centre’ workshop days can ’sell out’ fast and often end up larger than is ideal.

* Tension can run high in many classes where different students want to work at different paces.

* The growing costs associated with travel – driving or taking public transport to the training facility plus several days bed and breakfast can mount up each time you attend. With only 5-10 centre-days costing 35 pounds for a single over-night room, plus 40 pounds petrol and 15.00 for food, that equates to four to nine hundred pounds of costs that we weren’t expecting.

* It’s important to maintain privacy. We don’t want to risk losing any advancement that we’re owed while we retrain.

* Most of us find that, at times, it’s uncomfortable to raise questions in a class full of other trainees – who wants to look like they’re the only one who doesn’t get it?

* It should be remembered that days in-centre become basically unreachable, if you work elsewhere in the country for days at a time.

The best possible solution is watching a filmed workshop – providing direct instruction whenever it’s convenient for you.

Do them at home on your desktop computer or out in the garden on your laptop. Any questions that pop up, just make use of the 24×7 support (that we hope you’ll insist on with any technical courses.)

Just do the modules at any time you need to revise. And of course, you won’t need to take notes as you have the lesson indefinitely.

Quite simply: Time and money is saved, you have reduced hassle and you completely avoid polluting our environment.

A proficient and professional consultant (vs a salesman) will cover in some detail your current situation. This is paramount to calculating your study start-point.

If you have a strong background, or sometimes a little work-based experience (some certifications gained previously perhaps?) then it could be that your starting level will be quite dissimilar from someone with no background whatsoever.

For those students commencing IT study for the first time, it’s often a good idea to start out slowly, starting with some basic PC skills training first. Usually this is packaged with any educational course.
